Description: This film document shows a ceremony of homage to the resistance fighters of the pharmaceutical laboratory Orga in Avignon, during which a memorial is unveiled. First, the officials (a prefect and a general) arrive in a large courtyard, where the laboratory staff (in white coats), a military band and a battalion of soldiers are gathered. The officials go around the courtyard; the band plays the Marseillaise and everyone stands at attention. Then the ceremony of homage begins. The general made a speech recalling the great resistance deeds of the Orga staff (insert of archive images evoking the Resistance). He mentions the networks, the bombings of May-June 1944, which destroyed the Bellon factory and the Orga factory. After a time of silence, the commemorative monument was unveiled to music. In homage to the dead of the 1939-1945 period, it reads "In memory of the members of the management and staff who died for France". The names of the dead are listed one by one, while we see their photographs. Many women are mentioned. A female singer sings the partisans' song a capella. In the last part, the Legion of Honor is awarded to two young children whose parents died in the Resistance // This film shows how the memory of the Resistance in France was maintained (and constructed) in the post-war period. The ceremony organized was extremely official. The speech given emphasized the precociousness and scope of the Resistance in France and highlighted a certain number of values, the most important of which was sacrifice. As "dead for France", the Resistance fighters were honored in the same way as the fallen soldiers. The objective is to promote a resistant France, to make people forget the collaboration of the Vichy regime, and to enhance the idea of a national liberation, which was achieved "from within".
